Information
Made from an all-natural 100% Premium Blend cotton, the Scheepjes SKIES yarns are so soft you’d think you were holding a cloud. Dyed using beautiful shades of Indigo; a textile dye dating back to 4000BC, these yarns feature subtle colour contrasts and a hand dyed appearance. Ranging from the pale blue of a partially overcast Spring morning, to the deep Indigo of a midday Summer sky, transforming then to the sinister olive greens which overcome grassy pastures in the midst of a storm, capture the beauty and volatility of our glorious atmosphere with SKIES.
The Scheepjes SKIES collection encompasses 2 lines of yarn; Scheepjes SKIES Heavy and Scheepjes SKIES Light. With each sharing the same fibre content and range of colours, their differentiating feature is their weight, being DK and fingering respectively.
The History of Indigo
Natural Indigo dye is one of the oldest textile dyes ever used, with one of its earliest uses being discovered in Peru and dating back to approx. 4000 BC. Many ancient civilizations adopted Indigo dyes for colouring cotton and silk in countries such as Egypt, Mesopotamia and Greece. Mostly characterised by its rich blue colour, it has become a staple in the contemporary textile industry, characterising in particular denim fabrics. This is why, like denim, items made using SKIES yarn are destined to fade gradually over time.
Tip
- When washing for the first time, we highly recommend using a colour catcher as there may be small amounts of residual dye. For this reason, we also recommend avoiding using highly contrasting colours directly next to each other within a single project.
Assortment
Beautifully boxed these 9 mini hanks of our SKIES yarn each contain either 47m of SKIES heavy or 96m of SKIES light. Dyed with a natural Indigo dye, this 100% premium yarn is a definite 'silver lining'.
