An ode to global light festivals and natural spectacles around the world, the Festival of Lights CAL designed by Scheepjes Designer Collective member Jessica Wifall is Scheepjes’ official Autumn/Winter Crochet-A-Long for 2024. This classic CAL is a single project available in two different yarns, running over eight weeks.
As each motif is made, immerse yourself in vibrant hues inspired by the world’s most mesmerising light and colour displays - hot air balloons, Northern Lights, fireworks and light trails. Made using luxurious fibres - an Extra Fine Merino Wool blend or GOTS-certifed Organic Cotton yarn, this dazzling project will add a luminous touch to your home during the depths of winter darkness.
Join the Official Scheepjes Facebook Groups (international and Dutch) to take part in creating a crocheted motif-based blanket which incorporates a number of stitch techniques. Supported by our highly skilled mods and admin, as well as fellow participants, this community-driven project is an inspiring make for adventurous beginners as well as more advanced crafters.
The designer will be present over the course of the CAL to assist and interact with participants via our Facebook groups. Jessica will release blogposts and helpful tips and videos to accompany each pattern part, typically on Wednesdays at 1pm CEST.
The CAL will run for 8 weeks, beginning on 16 October 2024, approx. six weeks after Scheepjes announce the project on social media. This will allow participants time to purchase kits from their local Scheepjes retailer.
From the Designer
"I am so honoured and thrilled to share my design for this year’s Official Scheepjes CAL! This project holds a special place in my heart, not only because it is inspired by the breathtaking spectacle of hundreds of colourful hot air balloons rising in the light of dawn at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, but it is also a homage to the vibrant quilts of a loved one who is often in my thoughts.
"I think of this blanket as a celebration of the light brought into our lives by the people we love. During this Crochet-A-Long, I hope that each of us will find our own reasons to celebrate and share love with our amazing crafting community." - Jessica Wifall
